Downtown Shop Hop:  April 5

Main Street Mount Vernon (MSMV) announces a shop hop style shopping event taking place Friday, April 5. Seven Downtown Mount Vernon businesses will offer shopping, sales, refreshments, and prizes as they welcome shoppers to Mount Vernon.

MSMV is being joined for this event by Amato’s Woodfired Pizza (668 N. Sandusky St) who are offering two Italian beef subs for $15.  Coleman Gallery (216 S. Main St) will have 10% off purchases over $25 along with wine and appetizers. Crickets on South Main (120 S. Main St) will have wine and cookies.  Kudos Artist Co-op (10 S. Main St) features two artists: Rebecca Sigler's art of whimsical pottery animals are perfect for Easter gifts or to bring a little Spring to your life.  Beautiful alcohol ink paintings and cards by Kathleen Goode will also be on display. Kudos will be serving wine and snacks.  The Makery (1 N. Main St) invites you to their grown up "Easter Egg Hunt" with special door prizes on each egg. Golden Wonka tickets hidden in certain products and a fun make and take project. Moss Rose will be open and serving food from their new menu.  Take a look at one of the oldest businesses in downtown Mount Vernon - Woolson’s Company serving our community for over 100 years. First Friday presents Shop Hop businesses will be open until 8 PM.

Join Main Street Mount Vernon and the shops for an old-fashioned duck hunt!  Hidden in each participating shop is a rubber duck. Find it and get your sheet marked by the shop employee.  Post your completed sheets on Facebook with #mtvshophop for a chance to win prizes! Shoppers can pick up their participating sheet at any participating location.

May’s First Friday is the last Open Late Friday of the season - Ladies’ Night.

Yellow Jacket Spirit - October 5, 2018
On October 5th, the opening of the First Friday Presents: Open Late Friday series kicked off with "Yellow Jacket Spirit". The event turned into a weeklong celebration with the Mount Vernon High School. On Wednesday, starting at 7p, the MVHS Homecoming parade came from Vine Street, down Main Street and ended in a bonfire at the CA&C Depot. Downtown businesses were open throughout the event. Ongoing throughout the week was the Yellow Jacket Spirit Window Display Contest judged by City Council member and teacher, Jeff Gottke, Mayor Mavis, and MVHS Principal, Scott Will. Downtown businesses competed to win Most Creative, Most Spirited, Overall Winner, and Fan Favorite. Fan Favorite was judged via a Twitter poll and winners were announced during the Halftime show at the game on Friday night. Downtown businesses were open until 8p. 

Ladies' Night:  November 2

 Join downtown businesses for wine, hors-d'oeuvres, savory starters, and decadent desserts,  drop-in crafts like watercolor painting and bath bomb creating, learned how to master the art of the scarf, and received door prizes, discounts and more! Participating businesses included: Amato’s Woodfired Pizza, Coleman Family Gallery, Crickets on South Main, Gospel Christian Life Shop, Happy Bean, Kudos Art Co-op, The Makery, Moss Rose, Nimby Acre, Paragraphs Bookstore, Pine Row Studios, and Williams Flower Shop.

You can expect lots of great, extra experiences when you bring your special someone downtown.  Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner will be at Crickets on South Main (120 S. Main) schmoozing. Coleman Gallery (218 S. Main) will have chocolates and $15 wine glasses; you can get complimentary wine in your glass.  The Makery (1 N. Main) celebrates love with a special evening of Couples Paint and Sip, and wine, chocolates, games, a raffle and door prizes.  Seating is limited. Not part of a couple, don’t worry, stop in and make a stamped card. Newly Organic Apothecary (10 E. Vine) is hosting their Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting at 4:00 PM and will have appetizers, champagne, lotion bars, and $5 make and take passion essential oil rollers in either desire or romance. Starting at 6:00 Paragraphs Bookstore (229 S. Main) will be reading selections from "Love Poems for Married People."  Trust them, ladies, you will laugh out loud at some of these poems.

You can’t go on a date without a couple’s dinner.  Moss Rose (109 W. Ohio) is offering $3 wine and a special date night menu.  Stein Brewing Company (109 S. Main) offers a choice of fried avocado or buffalo bacon mozzarella, a choice of caesar or house salad, a choice of spinach lasagna rolls or lemon chicken piccata, and cupcakes for 2 for only $35.

Restaurant Week

Foodies, food junkies, culinary connoisseurs and everyone else who basically loves food: Main Street Mount Vernon is pleased to announce the first-ever Downtown Mount Vernon Restaurant Week, February 24-March 2, 2019. Participating restaurants will offer a featured item each day to give individuals a taste of why Mount Vernon’s growing restaurant scene has had such growth.

This event offers 3-course menus from The Alcove Restaurant & Lounge, Amato's Woodfired Pizza of Mount Vernon, Fiesta Mexicana Inc (Downtown), Flapper's Bar & Grille, Moss Rose, North Main Cafe, and Stein Brewing Company. Each day, check the Main Street Mount Vernon’s Facebook page for the appetizer, main course, or dessert special.


At the grand finale on Friday, March 1, downtown businesses will be complimenting the wonderful food with downtown experiences. Downtown Business information to come!
