FIRST EVER DOWNTOWN MOUNT VERNON GINGERBREAD FOREST                                               Saturday, November 27-Christmas                                                   Downtown Mount Vernon

Sponsored by Knox Community Hospital, Main Street Mount Vernon is happy to announce the first ever Downtown Mount Vernon Gingerbread Forest! Complete with gingerbread people sponsored by local businesses and decoreated by local artists, and four gingerbread houses as part of Habitat for Humanity of Knox County Playhouse Project!   Each gingerbread person will be decorated to match the sponsoring business, and the gingerbread houses will be decorated for their display on Public Square!  After being displayed through Christmas, the gingerbread houses will be donated to a local family with children in need.  To find out more about the Playhouse Project, click here. Kick off the Holiday season by joining Main Street Mount Vernon and sponsor, Ariel Corporation, for the Annual Shop Small Saturday Celebration in downtown Mount Vernon!  Beginning at 11am, the Merchants of Downtown will participate in the "STOCKING STUFFER SIDEWALK SALE" until 2pm.  From 2-3:30, Main Street has arranged for holiday carols to be sang from the Main Stage on Public Square, as well as a few presentations brought to you by Ariel and Park National Bank.  The parade will follow at 3:30pm, and the night will end with the Annual Square Lighting Ceremony immediately following!

Annual Square Lighting Ceremony                                                       5:30PM-6PM, Saturday, November 27                                        Downtown Mount Vernon

End the Shop Small Saturday Celebration with the Annual Square Lighting Ceremony! Sponsor, Mount Vernon News invites the community to light up the Square, and Downtown Mount Vernon. Immediately following the Annual Holiday Parade, the lighting ceremony is projected to begin at 5:30pm. Santa will return from the parade and join Downtown Manager, Anthony McNeal, Mayor Starr and a Mount Vernon News representative on the Main Stage located at Public Square. The crew will then start a countdown to the turning on of the holiday lights!

The2020 event that took Mount Vernon by storm is back for the 2021 Winter in Downtown Mount Vernon season!  Up to a dozen houses will be going ALL OUT for this special residential holiday lighting competition.  Sponsored by Knox County Foundation, Festival of Lights is a special way for you and your family to celebrate the holidays without risking those big crowds!  Local community members and visitors from all over are invited to drive, bike or even walk the Festival of Lights trail provided on Main Street's Facebook Event Page the week of the event. Once you've seen all the houses, it's your turn to help us choose the best of the best!  With three different categories this year, every house has a chance to win!  Categories are Best Gingerbread, Best White Lights, and Best Colorful Lights!
